The continued growth of rugby in Saskatchewan, particularly amongst female athletes, led the Wild Oats to create a women’s club in 1998. Original members of WOW (Wild Oats Women) included Laura Stoughton, Tara Eckert, Heather Exner, Tarrah Klein, Eve Upshall and Abigail Howell. WOW got off to a strong start, winning city finals in their first year, and would remain city champions until 2007. It took them a couple of years, but WOW soon followed up their initial success in Saskatoon with triumph at the provincial level, claiming the provincial championship in 1999 with a victory over the Regina Breakers. They continued to battle for provincial champion status yearly until 2007, when they failed to qualify for the final. The club went on to again win the provincial finals in 2008, and 2010-2012.
